Allied Health Pre-Congress Symposium: Navigating professional stressors and practical applications of positive well-being strategies

Session Goals:

  1. To describe the prevalence, early signs and symptoms, and longer-term impact of professional burnout and secondary trauma
  2. To support the development of work-life balance through the teaching of positive self-care strategies

With the guidance of trained mental health care experts, this session will review the prevalence and types of mental health stressors and challenges that allied health and nursing professionals may face in their everyday clinical practice working within pediatric solid organ transplantation. We will support the attendees to recognize the early signs and symptoms of burnout and secondary trauma, and suggest strategies to address this within the workplace. There will be a focus on the practice of accessible self-care for the healthcare provider to integrate into everyday life. This will foster a more productive work-life balance, with the goal of minimizing mental health risks and allow for longer term positive well-being.

Trainee Pre-Congress Symposium

Session Goals:

  1. To provide a rich background in basic topics in transplantation for trainees and junior faculty members, to best set them up for improved learning opportunities from the full congress.
  2. To discuss upcoming and important transformational topics in the field of transplantation for children.

With representation from junior faculty, mid-career faculty, and senior faculty (and IPTA leadership), this session will provide a condensed high-level learning opportunity for our trainees and junior faculty members. The first part of the session will address basic topics including immunology, immunosuppression, laboratory techniques, treatment of rejection, a review of unique cases and how to approach them. After the break, the second session will address updates in our field, including novel approaches and techniques in our field. The attendees will obtain both a background in the field of transplantation, and understand what is on the horizon for care of their patients.
